Free Mindfulness apps

Smiling Mind

This app has been tailored to help with the mental health needs of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The app aims to provide support covering topics such as sleep, resilience, decision making under pressure, stress management, and thinking clearly.  Both the web and app content was developed by psychologists and educators and is non-for-profit.

Calm

This app has a free version. I do find that not having access to the paid content can sometimes be distracting for me. However, it is still a great app with a lot to offer. Calm provides guided meditations, sleep stories, calming music, and breathing programs.

Insight Timer

This one has to be my personal favourite! I have been using this since the start of last year and did I mention it is free! Just navigate past the button that says “Start 7 Day Trial”. Good for anxiety, stress, and sleep. I personally found this to be a great stress reliever. It focuses on meditation and mindfulness and has a massive amount of free guided meditations.

Headspace

This one is free for US healthcare professionals working in public health settings. On signing up you just enter your NPI and email address. The app helps you learn skills of mindfulness and mediation. The app includes a little reminder “get some headspace” for you to keep up your daily practice.
